PUP JPIA Manila's representatives win the Accounting Research Lecture 3rd runner up spot

PUP JPIA representatives Klyde Joshua J. Pacis, Ma. Erica A. De Guzman, Allyssa Lalaine C. Oria, and Mary Elaine Jr. V. Igot swept the 3rd runner-up spot at one of the 2nd Accounting Students Research Festival's sub-events: Accounting Research Lecture Competition with their research topic entitled “RAND’s: Beyond the Standards," February 25.

Representatives had a consultation with Prof. Noel Bergonia, MBA, CPA, about their entry, submitted their video presentation on February 10, and then were confirmed to be part of the semi-finalist group on February 13 through an email.

The video presentation of the group was posted on February 16 at the NACPAE’s Facebook group where it gained 504 heart reactions and was announced to be part of the top 5 finalists after they presented at the Zoom Cloud Meeting.

Despite having hectic schedules as they are also the local chapter's Executive Officers, they still managed to deliver their presentation well.

"It felt great because, despite the fact that it was a national competition, I felt absolutely no pressure because I was with my co-executive officers, whom I adore so much. We wouldn't have been able to place third if it weren't for our excellent cooperation and dedication in this competition, so I believe that the chemistry between the four of us throughout the competition was a huge help. I think we all agreed that winning would be a bonus factor because what matters most to us is the experience, we gained by participating in this competition," said Allyssa Lalaine C. Oria.

Champion of the said sub-event was representative of Mindanao State University, along with the Best Lecturer and Most Engaged Video Presentation, while the first runner-up was from the Technological Institute of the Philippines - Manila, the second runner-up was from the University of San Carlos, and the fourth runner-up was from Notre Dame of Marbel University.

"The greatest lesson for me is how you need to be able to learn public speaking because it will be your edge among other people, not just in the competition, but also throughout your life, if you really want to stand out," said Klyde Joshua Pacis on what they have learned on the competition.

The 2nd Accounting Research Festival consists of four sub-events namely Accounting Research Lecture Competition on February 25, Accounting Research Quiz Bee and Accounting Poster Making Contest to be held on March 25, and Accounting Research Paper Presentation to be held on April 29.

The event was hosted by the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) in partnership with PWC Philippines and in cooperation with the PICPA Foundation Committee on Research and the National Association of CPAs in Education to provide an avenue for BSA students to share their experiences and learnings from conducting research and to inspire other accounting students to conduct research.
