Love, Alex and Rosie

It's really hard to be friends with someone you see as more than friends. It's hard to risk the friendship you have to get the world you have always dreamed of.

The friendship of Rosie and Alex in the movie “Love, Rosie” showed us how they chose to let go of themselves because they are scared to lose each other if they let out their feelings to each other. “Love, Rosie” is a movie about Rosie and Alex who grew up together and became best friends with trust, shared dreams, and a deep understanding of each other. However, they danced around their feelings for each other for more than ten years because they lacked words that made their love part ways.

Based on Cecelia Ahern's 2004 novel Where Rainbows End, “Love, Rosie” is a 2014 romantic comedy-drama film directed by Christian Ditter and a screenplay by Juliette Towhidi. The cast, which included Lily Collins as Rose and Sam Clafin as Alex, all excelled as actors, making the film well-known. Both actors did well in portraying their roles, and their chemistry was incredible. It was evident in most of their scenes. Aside from those, the cinematography was also good, and the camera shots were on point. In addition, I also love the background music used, and its soundtrack adds emotions to the viewers.

It was a movie about friendship, dreams, family, long-distance, and unrequited love. It did not just show the unrequited love of Alex and Rosie, but also the realness of life. It all started when they shared a drunken kiss on Rosie’s 18th birthday, which revealed their feelings for one another to the viewers. Rosie forgot what happened, and Alex did not talk about it and assumed that Rosie was trying to pretend as if they did not kiss. Thus, Alex chose to invite Brittany as his date to the dance party and dated her. Alex and Rosie had planned to leave their hometown and move to Boston to pursue their dreams, but after learning that Rosie was pregnant, she decided not to tell Alex because she believed that Alex would not move to Boston without her. Their friendship continues even if they are far away from each other.

One of the best moments was with Rosie and his father. The healthy father-daughter relationship was heartening to watch. Her father was supportive of her and pushed her to chase her dreams. There is nothing you can't do if you put your mind to it. I adore how Rosie took her father's advice to heart and achieved her goal of running her hotel. It's an inspiration to everyone that sometimes life may get in the way of your dreams, but never give up and continue chasing until it falls into your hands.

In my opinion, this movie was not that much of a comedy. I think the comedy pertaining here was some scenes like when Rosie had a condom mishap or when her daughter caught her with a man in the bed, and she had no choice but to bring her daughter to school with a bed frame where her hand was locked with a chain. Well, those scenes are not funny, and they might be disturbing to some other people. That's probably the downside of the movie. But one of my favorite funny scenes was when Brittany caught her on the street with her daughter in a stroller.

The first scene already hurt us with Rosie's line, "It's time to let it go. Go out. And start again". We may not understand it at first, but the line hurts as the plot unfolds. It's painful that something is changing and someone won't be in the next chapter. In reality, no matter how painful it is, we need to move forward and continue even if it is not the same as before or it doesn't turn out the way we wanted it to be. One of the most memorable scenes was when Alex confessed that they kissed, and he was too cowardly to tell it and just chose to have a perfect woman to cover the pain inside of not having the woman he only dreamed of. Their friendship may continue over the years, and they may be successful in their own lives, but it still clearly shows how incomplete they are for not being in each other's arms. It tells us that whenever you love someone, say what you feel and don't get lost among the shadows of uncertainty.

The final scene was metaphorical in some way. When Rosie asked Alex whether he had any luggage, Alex responded, "No, I left it all behind," which may have meant that all of his problems, including those from his past and his marriage, had been resolved. There's nothing that could be a hindrance for them to being together, and he's ready to spend the future with her. It may be a short scene, but it means a lot. I also love the part when he asks her to have a dance because it's like he is correcting the past. It shows that it should be Rosie from the very start. It has always been Rosie. Just like what Rosie said, "Better late than never."

It's hard to be friends with someone you see as more than friends. It's hard to spend time with the person you see as your world, but who only treats you as a friend. It's hard to fight for love and risk the true friendship that you can hold on to forever. Love is about timing. It is not just about fighting and holding on to each other. It is also about letting go. Letting go sometimes does not mean falling out of love, but it also means loving that person more. And when time makes it move for your love to be together again, it simply means that you are truly, honestly, and completely meant for each other.
