“We’re the heart and soul of this very beach.”.
Maybe a lot of us have already been waiting with our hearts and souls to be at the beach at this very moment. Who would not be on these hot summer days, right? But Mitch and his elite squad from the 2017 film “Baywatch” have put their all efforts into trying to keep the bay safe and free.
The film is a remake of the hit film and series in 1989, “Baywatch” played by stars David Hasselhoff, Jason Momoa, Pamela Anderson, and more. For the movie 2019 movie, the main cast Mitch - played by Dwayne Johnson - and together with him on his team are Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, Jon Bass, and Ilfenesh Hadera. The story started with the lifeguard team from the beach having tryouts for new members of their team. Matt Brody, played by Zac Efron, was a world champion in swimming and wanted to join the team with his angst and hotness which he thought would be cool. As the story progresses, they started investigating and protecting the beach from investors with other intentions aside from getting their skin tanned.
I could truly say that I have been entertained watching the film. It is a combination of comedy, action, and a bit of romance. Moreover, I like the blend of casts because it brought balance in terms of teenage attitudes, humor, manly stands, and sexy side. Although it was rated R due to fighting scenes and illegal drugs, it was necessary for the plot and humor of the film to be delivered effectively.
I would like to highlight the setting of the film. It is realistic and organized. The jokes and lines have been delivered properly and I love the combination of Zac Efron’s angst and youthfulness. As for Dwayne Johnson, he never fails to display his manly stunts. The girls on the team were undeniably hot and sexy, but they are more than that. I like how they were more than just sexy bodies but also talented and brave lifeguards. It was a very summer film not to mention that it talks a lot about the ocean and beach.
There were also some cliché parts of the film as there were a lot of slow-mo moments and typical turn of events. But as a fan of comedy, I could say that they succeeded in making the film hilarious. And when it comes to their fight against the businesswoman drug dealer, they ditch the surf and go deep undercover to take her down because her devious plans threaten the future of the bay.
It was also commendable that the film includes background stories in between the scenes so that it could also guide the viewers on why the characters were acting that way. Just like how Matt Brody acted in the film - full of arrogance. And why would a two-time world swimming champion be a lifeguard instead of being on the world stage?
Each character contributed and played their role very well. It is not only about sexy bodies and bikinis. Baywatch is definitely beyond that. And as a millennial, it is amazing how the old Mitch, David Hasselhoff from the first movie was in the 2017 film. They certainly made a mark on the film. The use of soundtracks and background music was noticeable since it is the same just like in the 1989 film.
Summer should be fun and safe. It is also safe to say that the film sticks to the plot of the original movie, and did not lose its transition. It shows how lifeguards are not only about watching the ladies with their butts and men on their trunks but they treat every day as a summer. It is immensely intense and hot which is relatable on this very hot summer.
The lineup of casts is commendable and the film will teach you how important teamwork is. There is no I in Team, but there are W and E letters of WE in Teamwork. Life is saving yourself from drowning and saving one another from sinking.
The Baywatch film is definitely a must-watch! It is available on Netflix and it makes your life and gets ready to be hot while watching it. Be sure to enjoy the film and have your heart and soul into it.
